Knobs 259 & 260<\/p><\/div>\n

Knobs 259 & 260 are vertical grain Red Oak from a 1.5 x \u00be inch board, with some scraps of other wood glued on.\u00a0 Knob 259 has a scrap of vertical grain Yellowheart glued to the top.\u00a0 Oak has dense hard grain layered with porous grain, which is much softer.\u00a0 This often causes drills to wander when drilling holes.\u00a0 This caused the pot hole in 260 to drill too close to two sides of the blank, so two scraps of Angelique (the darker wood) were glued on those sides.\u00a0 Both knobs have a SG base coat.\u00a0 Knob 259 has black and metallic antique copper paint rubbed into grain crevices.\u00a0 Both are finished with several coats of SG, then two coats of neutral shoe polish.\u00a0 As with all vertical grain wood knobs, iridescence can be see only from the sides.\u00a0 Although less dramatic than woods like Lati or Marblewood, Red Oak still has a complex and pleasing grain that might be even more visible with a stain that could penetrate deeply into the porous layers.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
